Hayes Stripling

has been promoted to Vice President of Sales, where he will direct all sales and customer related activities. Stripling, with a strong engineering background will also play a strategic role in assessing customer needs and developing new market solutions.

Michael Mitchell

has been promoted to Vice President, Director of Engineering. In this position Mitchell will focus his team of varied-discipline engineers in creating dynamic solutions to customer needs. For the past 22 years while working with Welex, Mitchell has been influential in setting ANSI standards as a member of various SPI Machinery safety committees.

Welex to Unveil New Product Lines at NPE 2009

Blue Bell, PA, USA, March 6, 2009

Welex Incorporated, leading global supplier of sheet extrusion systems, will unveil several new product lines at NPE this June in Chicago.

The highlight of Welex's exhibit will be a 4,000 Lbs/Hr World Standard® coextrusion line that will run 60" wide APET sheet for production of fruit, vegetable and bakery packaging. The line starts with a high-powered vented 6" Mark III extruder, including their Universal barrier screw, paired with a 2-1/2" coextruder. Each extruder is followed by a Welex gear pump, static mixer, and screen changer, including a PSI double bolt continuous hydraulic model on the main extruder. Extruder outputs are combined in a Welex modular 3 layer feed block. For automatic profile control, a Welex-invented Autoflex® automatic profile control die and NDC gauging system are included. An Evolution® model sheet take-off with 12/24/24" diameter chrome cooling rolls will finish the sheet. The sheet will be silicone emulsion coated to prevent blocking in a Welex bath system. Edge- trimming and a centerless disc design dual shaft indexing turret winder complete the line. Following NPE, this line will be the 5th delivered to an existing Welex customer.

The Company will also be introducing a new line of High Speed Extruders at NPE. THe Welex HS300 is a 3" 40D vented extruder equipped with a 600 hp AC drive. Running at 1500 rpm, this extruder has an output of over 4,000 Lbs/Hr, comparable to a conventional 6" 30D machine. it eliminates the usual gear reducer between the motor and the screw, which is directly coupled to the AC motor drive. One unique feature is the hollow shaft motor that permits screw cooling and easy screw extraction.

According to Frank Nissel, Chairman, "the advantages of the high speed model are that somewhat less initial investment is needed, and greater efficiency is achieved through slightly less specific energy consumption". HS extruders are geared for sheet extrusion applications; other operations are not as well suited to handle such immense volumes of extrudate. Due to the short dwell time, venting is not sufficient to run PET without thorough predrying on these machines. This is not an issue for other common sheet materials such as PP or HIPS.

Another new addition to the Welex lineup that will be introduced at NPE is the Econotruder. Welex designers have worked hard to pack all of the reliability and performance that the Company's customers have relied on for over 40 years into this new line. The Econotruder features direct drive for maximum efficiency, a PLC touch screen interface, and as the name implies, an unbeatable price.

Throughout the show, a video will demonstrate various Welex sheet lines in operation. Highlights of the video include:

• A six extruder Evolution® sheet line producing 60" wide high barrier sheet

• 6" and 7" V-PET World Standard® sheet lines making perfect 60" rolls without edge trim

• A five extruder system producing 48" wide corrugated sheet at 5,000 Lbs/Hr, 80 ft/min, using the Welex Vacuum Forming Drum Process. This line typically runs HDPE or PP, and has the capability of running different colors on either side. Both surfaces can also be individually selected and modified for more or less slippage.

Welex moves manufacturing to North Carolina to meet overwhelming demand for sheet extrusion business

Blue Bell, PA, January 16, 2007

Welex Incorporated today announced a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility will go online in mid-February in Greenville, North Carolina. Corporate offices, including key management and engineering personnel will remain in Blue Bell, PA, while a satellite corporate office/meeting facility will be located in the Greenville facility.

Frank Nissel, president of Welex comments on the move, "The global demand for sheet extrusion systems has become so significant that we felt our current manufacturing facility would not allow us to properly develop the extrusion systems in a cost effective and timely manner. The move to Greenville is a perfect blend of “smart” manufacturing space coupled with a location that affords us a better opportunity to reach a far greater number of customers from a more strategically situated facility. Greenville airport and the Newport News seaport are both conveniently nearby. We couldn’t be more pleased with the entire setup and anxiously look forward to going back online in mid-February."

To bridge the gap between the Blue Bell and Greenville locations both facilities will be equipped with closed circuit internet monitoring, webcams and conference capabilities to allow for live interactions among both locations. “We wanted to ensure that we could maintain real time communications with manufacturing, corporate and customer visits, which is why we allocated additional capital expenditures to develop a system that would allow us to have visual and verbal communication access at all times”, continued Mr. Nissel. "It’s a win-win for everyone".
